Thanks for the photo Russell Sach

Rosie was a nurse in her mid 30’s. Spoon carving was the last things she thought she would become obsessed with!

But that is exactly what happened.

A few years ago, Rosie began embracing her ‘outdoorsy’ side. Wild camping (using a hammock!), hiking and remembering her place within nature lead Rosie to covet a wooden spoon for her trips away. A lightweight piece of luxury to enjoy when enjoying being in nature…

Soon, she found herself using axes and ‘sloyd’ and ‘hook’ knives for the first time in her life. From there she has carved hundreds of spoons, some of which have been exhibited and ‘branched out’ (sorry….that was bad!) to make other greenwood items, including the Heritage Crafts Association Red list skill of Pole Lathe Bowl Turning. She is currently learning to make traditional Welsh style stick chairs with the mentorship of Dave Cockcroft.

Rosie quickly became very interested in the therapeutic nature of spoon carving and wishes to share that with others, whilst striving to better herself and continually improve.

Rosie has spent time assisting on courses over 2 years at Woodland Makers at Brookhouse Woods. She has gained much experience from a range of some of the best greenwood workers and teachers. She’s helped organise and run Bowl Gathering, corporate events, experiences for refugees, neurodiverse people, women’s groups and more. She loves people and loves to share her skills.

Rosie enjoys all woodland related activities and enjoys holistic approach to her life. She’s done coppice work, is learning to use a chainsaw for sustainable woodland management, makes charcoal and is interested in exploring traditional and sustainable, regenerative crafts further.
